In Memento Mori, as a contrast to love and good, man wrestles with his inner duality. The inner evil, lust and anger that is also so close to love. The backside of it all. Because it is above all a story about grief and loss. What the loss of something so total can do to a human being.
And what happens when the inner beast comes to life?
